Pillars of the New Architecture of Foreign Economic Activity

The future of the Russian economy is inseparably intertwined with the global trade system putting emphasis on interaction with the Global South countries and the growing conglomeration of the BRICS countries. This predetermines a fundamentally new approach to the strategy for the development of foreign trade relations, industry markets and instruments as pillars of the new architecture of foreign economic activity.

Today, Russia has entered a challenging phase of re-creating the export system. Having withstood the harsh sanctions, businesses experienced a sharp increase in trans-operating costs, which threatened the competitiveness of Russian goods even in friendly markets. Transactions with high value added goods were kept under the radar, expanding the arsenal of transaction intermediaries, developing new payment instruments, building complex logistics connections, and forming new corridors of the global economy being on the brink of collapse. However, already now, thanks to the efforts of market players, the new trade relations and the outline of the global trade architecture are emerging.

But how can we restructure the foreign economic activity of the entire country? Both Russian companies and the government, each in their own way, are trying to seize the control and make an effort to prevent worsening foreign trade isolation. Should the government and business be full partners? A macro-request for the country’s foreign trade strategy that is transparent to all market players has been outlined. Business interests and priorities in the country’s foreign policy should be synchronized and facilitate the comprehensive entry of Russian companies into foreign markets.

Based on their practice and the results of market research, discussion participants will analyze the export potential of their businesses over the next 5-7 years and make an attempt to create the value proposition of Russian companies in foreign markets. What does Russia export? What does Russia import? How do architecture and infrastructure ensure the connectivity of partners around the world, protecting both domestic business and foreign clients from threats?
