President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin moderated the session dedicated to Sustainable Development and Green Economy: Export Potential and Factors of Economic Growth at the Made in Russia International Economic Forum.

Experts from the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry note that the agenda of sustainable development, a circular economy, and environmental sustainability is gaining momentum across the board. Practical understanding of the importance of this vector as a prerequisite for development is growing among government agencies, businesses, and citizens. The current geopolitical situation also requires additional attention to the rational consumption and use of resources.

In Russia, significant steps have recently been taken towards implementing a circular economy, sustainable development, and focusing on the need for a responsible attitude towards the environment.

An example of this is the closed-loop Economy federal project as part of the Environmental Well-being national project and regional programs for the transition to a closed-loop economy are currently being developed.

Systematic work is being carried out to improve regulatory frameworks and stimulate work with recycled materials and the inclusion of such materials in secondary circulation.

Russian Environmental Operator is the newly established development institute in this area. Companies are implementing their own corporate strategies for implementing sustainable development and a circular economy. The school's management activities are also underway.

It’s worth noting the significant role of industry business associations as the primary source of information on the state of affairs, the effectiveness of law enforcement practices, and a center of competence for developing proposals aimed at supporting relevant industries and areas of activity.

The session’s speakers included Vyacheslav Fetisov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Igor Zabralov, Director for Circular Economy Development at the Russian Environmental Operator, Maria Litovko, Deputy Governor of Sevastopol, Elena Myakotnikova, Chairperson of the Council for Sustainable Business Development, Corporate Social Responsibility and Volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Maxim Remchukov, Director of the Recycling and Sustainable Solutions Development Division at SIBUR, Viktor Kovshevny, Director of RUSLOM.COM Association, Irina Mironova, Director of the Department for the Implementation of Federal Development Projects at SKOLKOVO School of Management, Andrey Podenok, President of the Moscow Association of Entrepreneurs, and Natalya Kirillova , General Director of Permanent K&M.
