The Russian Export Center (part of the VEB.RF Group) plans to scale the program to promote domestic manufacturers in foreign markets under the national brand "Made in Russia." The plans include using innovative promotion tools, improving existing practices, and increasing the scale of campaigns under the "Made in Russia" brand. This initiative follows President Vladimir Putin’s directive from the September meeting of the State Council Presidium on export development.
The discussion on the challenge of low recognition of Russian products abroad, titled "Made in Russia: How to Make Foreign Buyers Fall in Love with Russian Goods," was a highlight of the International Export Forum "Made in Russia," held on October 14 at the World Trade Center in Moscow. The forum was organized by the Russian Export Center.
"83% of companies want to supply their products to distant foreign markets, where our non-resource goods are not yet well known. The “Made in Russia” promotion program is the REC's response to the challenges of reorienting to new markets. The program helps create a positive image of Russia and its products, thereby increasing demand for everything “Made in Russia”," emphasized Veronika Nikishina, CEO of the REC, during the discussion.
According to the REC head, nearly 8,500 products, ranging from food to pharmaceuticals and high-tech developments, are being promoted and sold abroad under the "Made in Russia" label with REC’s support. The REC promotes Russian products at major international exhibitions, business events in Russia and abroad, and on key global marketplaces. New promotion formats are constantly being tested and implemented: promotional campaigns with opinion leaders, "Made in Russia" festivals and fairs, sports events like the star-studded "Made in Russia" hockey match, and more.
The promotion of the national brand is closely linked to the popularization of Russian culture and values. Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Sergey Pershin shared his vision of enhancing Russia’s image on the world stage by promoting its cultural code. Juliana Slashcheva, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Soyuzmultfilm Film Studio, spoke about how animated characters can strengthen domestic brands abroad.
Aleksey Repik, Chairman of "Business Russia" emphasized that the "Made in Russia" program aligns with the strategic goal set by the President — the creation of a sustainable and dynamic economy.
"We are still in the early stages of implementation, but there is no doubt that through the combined efforts of the government, the Russian Export Center, and businesses, the ambitious “Made in Russia” project will evolve into a strong, fully-fledged brand with a well-established history, perceptions, and high market value," noted Aleksey Repik.
One of the most prominent symbols with which Russia is associated worldwide is hockey. Sports events serve as an effective platform for international dialogue and strengthening cooperation, said Vyacheslav Fetisov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources, and Environmental Protection.
"Foreign consumers recognize Russia by reading Russian classics, admiring the achievements of our athletes, and, of course, tasting Russian products. Sport embodies team spirit, willpower, and the drive to win, and under the 'Made in Russia' brand, the idea is conveyed that these qualities are also inherent in Russian products, renowned worldwide for their high quality and reliability," emphasized Vyacheslav Fetisov.
Famous Russian footballer and president of the Irtysh Football Club Dmitry Sychev supported the need for active involvement of athletes, cultural figures, and public opinion leaders in promoting Russia’s achievements and values under the "Made in Russia" national brand, urging them to participate in REC campaigns.
"The active engagement of athletes and creative personalities in promoting the 'Made in Russia' brand is our common cause and could be an important step toward strengthening Russia’s position on the international stage," said Dmitry Sychev.
Special attention during the discussion was given to Russian-Chinese cooperation. China became the pilot market for testing new promotion formats for the "Made in Russia" brand, through which the REC promotes Russian exporters on marketplaces, social media, retail networks, exhibitions, and unique "Made in Russia" festivals and fairs.
Zhou Liqun, Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia, noted the significant growth of Chinese consumer interest in Russian products, which has been stimulated, in part, by the promotion of the "Made in Russia" brand. Agnessa Osipova, President of BRPI, shared how Russian ice cream managed to secure its place in the Chinese market and how BRPI, together with REC, promoted a product specially designed for the Chinese market.
